Age spots

AGE SPOTS

Age spots are characterised as flat, brown-coloured spots that most often appear on the face, hands, arms and shoulders. They occur when the top layer of the skin expands with more pigment. Despite the name, age spots, also known as liver spots, can occur in younger people, although they remain more common is those over 40. Age spots occur naturally as part of the ageing process as when you age, the skin becomes less able to regenerate itself, and is thinner and more delicate. Age spots also occur in skin that has been exposed to direct sunlight over a long-term period, or in heavy sunbed users, as UV light has been proven to damage skin.
